Dave Reynolds is an old time rancher and cowboy. He loves to do things the natural way. He grew up on a farm in Minnesota where they had dairy cows. He moved to South Dakota thirty years ago and started raising Longhorn cattle. His love of the West also found him breeding and training Spanish Mustang horses.

He sticks to the natural raising of both, and also keeps a low carbon footprint, not using ATV's to round-up his cattle and horses. His dedication to natural horsemanship also crosses over to his Longhorn raising. His gentle, calm approach to handling the animals creates a herd that is friendly and content.

Benefits of Natural Grass Fed Beef
Natural Grass Fed Beef1. No Harmful Artificial Growth Hormones
Ranchers who raise grass fed cattle do not practice abusive use of synthetic growth hormones and antibiotics. However, there are types of growth hormone applications with safer guidelines that some ranch owners use, as well as using certain antibiotics for the cow’s hoofs and legs.

2. Higher Quality of Protein and Omega-3 Fatty-Acid
Lean and natural grass fed beef is very high in nutrients. Among the highest nutrients are proteins and Omega-3 fatty acids, commonly found in fish oil and certain plant/nut oils. The most common types of Omega-3 fatty acids are alpha-lanoline (LNA), deicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA). These fatty-acids are known to reduce blood pressure, reduce risk of coronary heart disease, and improve blood circulation. There is evidence that n-3 fatty acids supplementation might be helpful in cases of depression and anxiety. Other benefits also include prevention of cancer, hypertension, arthritis, and other inflammatory and auto immune disorders. Natural grass fed beef also contains less fat, low in cholesterol and low in calories.

3. Natural Living Environment for the Animals
Supporting by consuming natural grass fed beef do not only add benefits to your healthy diet, but they also help ranchers continue the traditional ways of providing and maintaining a natural and healthy living environment for the animals and for the environment.

Community Supported Ranching (CSR)
Community Supported Ranching (CSR) is similar to Community Supported Agriculture, in that each person owns a share of an individual animal, in this case cattle, and when the animal is slaughtered and processed each share holder gets an equal portion of the meat from processing. The shareholders are paying the rancher to raise and care for their cow or steer for them and to get it processed and shipped to them.
Buy Natural Grass Fed Beef
Support American Cattlemen - Unlike agriculture, where a bad year can result in poor crops or different kinds of crops being delivered to the shareholder, the CSR is more consistent because the animal always grows. The share price stays fixed once it is paid for the raising of the cow or steer but is reviewed every year to account for weather and the going price of cattle on the open market. The rancher is paid a better price then he or she would get at auction. CSR is the best way to support American cattlemen and to bring natural grass fed beef to you table.

HealthandLiving.com acts as the contact point for shareholders and ranchers to meet and enter into the CSR. We protect the shareholder by setting guidelines that each rancher, who is represented at HealthandLiving.com, has to follow to assure the shareholder that the animal is raised humanly and on 99% natural grass. HealthandLiving.com also holds your payment to the rancher until the animal is ready to go to slaughter to protect you from non-deliver of the animal to meat processing. Your payment is released to the rancher at the time the animal goes to slaughter.

Know Where Your Beef is Coming from - When you participate in a CSR you are supporting the rancher and the meat processor directly with no middleman and you are getting the freshest possible natural grass fed meat. Also, you know where your meat is coming from and who is raising it. When you become a shareholder you chose the rancher who you want to work with and will have his or her address and contact info, you will also know who the meat processor is. You are protecting yourself and your family from foods of unknown origin and unknow processing conditions.

Longhorn Cattle
Longhorns were the cattle raised by the first cowmen of the West.
They are hardy, natural animals that thrive in the plains of the Black Hills of South Dakota. They need the same handling as any other cattle and the huge horns are not as dangerous as some people think. The longhorns are colorful and vary greatly from cow to cow. It is very easy to identify each cow or bull by their markings. This gives them an individuality you do not get with black cow industrial ranching. We also have Longhorn crosses. The breeds he is crossing iwth are angus, hereford, shorthorn.

The future of our health in our food system is in dire need of a re-structure more than ever. Natural Grass Fed Beef
The meat products that most of us buy from our local supermarket no longer supply us with natural nutritional value including an essential fatty acid called Omega-3.

And because of the advancement of biotechnology in agriculture, evidence show that there has been lack of risk assessment of potential health hazards from genetically modification of our food supply. We need more responsible technology and accountability in our new food industry.

Natural Grass Fed Beef

Grass is an edible herbaceous plant material not containing cereal grain, grain byproducts or concentrate that can be grazed or harvested for feeding. This claim applies to ruminant animals whose sole energy/feed source throughout their life span is derived from grass (annual and perennial), forbs (legumes, brassicas), browse, forage, or stockpiled forages all not containing cereal grain or concentrate.
Hay, haylage, baleage, silage and ensilage (all not containing cereal grain or concentrate), and postharvest crop residue may also be included in the feeding regime.

Consumption of non-cereal grain seeds in herbage, forage and browse is acceptable. Cereal grain crops may be grazed or harvested in the pre-grain green leaf stage or post-grain harvest. Grass and/or forage, as defined above must be 99 percent or higher of the energy source consumed prior to weaning. Additionally mineral and vitamin supplementation is permissible. Animals must be pasture confined at all possible times. Dry lot confinement is limited to handling and emergency situations only. Intentional feeding of grain, grain byproducts or concentrate is strictly prohibited.

What Are Feedlots?

Feedlots are places where large agribusiness puts cattle to fatten it up on growth hormones and food substances other than natural grass. They will store more cows than would be naturally possible on a small plot of land. These animals end up living in such close quarters that the ground is nothing but trampled manure.

Because this is a hot bed for disease the animals have to be feed a steady diet of antibiotics to keep them health. The quality of their lives is very poor and their diet is filled with food substitutes, for grass, that can even contain other animal byproducts.

The worst part of it is that these feedlots become a place for the breeding of microorganisms and bacteria that build a tolerance to the antibiotics the animals are being fed. These antibiotics are the same ones that are used for people to fight infection and disease. This is creating a future health risk for us and our children.

When you buy meats at your large box grocery store they come from feedlots and you are endangering yourself and your family. This method has to be used to produce the cheap meats that are so under priced in comparison to natural grass fed beef.
